Old City Cemetery
The Galena Foundation has awarded over $59,000 in grants toward the restoration of the Old City Cemetery on Dodge Street. The cemetery dates back to the earliest settlers of Galena, and had long suffered from neglect and vandalism.
Thanks mainly to the efforts of Dale Glick, a native of Galena and local historian, the project continues today. Fences are being restored and replaced, stones that had fallen were put back in place, and stones that were destroyed or missing are being replicated with the help of old photographs.
